On the Boards presents the final 12 Minutes Max (12MM) of the 13/14 season at Washington Hall.
This is also the final 12 Minutes Max for OtB’s Regional Programs Director Sean Ryan. Sean has helmed 12 Minutes Max for the past decade; and in the process has introduced over 400 regional and national artists to OtB’s regional programming. This 12 Minutes Max is a final goodbye and thank you for his years of dedication and mentoring to artists in the Pacific NW.
12 Minutes Max is currently curated by the Ambassador Project. This year 15 leaders from Seattle’s art and creative communities will assist OtB’s team to bring new voices and perspectives to our programs. This 12 Minutes Max was curated by Jameson Fink and Sierra Stinson, along with $12 for 12Minutes Max Ben D. McFadden.
MAY ARTIST LINEUP
Tim Smith-Stewart of Eternal Glow is returning to On the Boards with Dear Wolf Point. A letter expressing an internal emptiness reflected by the vast open landscape of the Midwest. Video meets performance as Tim rides the Empire Builder train from Minneapolis to Seattle.
Making her 12MM debut is choreographer Becca Blackwell. Both spoken word and dance “and you”, explores the line created between movement and text investigating the coexistence of both within the same space.
A Little Thing is Diamond Keener’s last performance in Seattle before she packs up and heads to Scotland for a Performance Art training program for the next 3 years. This experimental short work comments on the role of men vs. women and conformist vs. non-conformist in the modern artistic world.
So the big earthquake finally hits Seattle. How does its impact “Richter-shay” throughout the city? Returning again this season to 12 MM is Grace Levy with Tremble. This comedic piece packs a punch as Grace traverses between multiple characters dealing with the wreckage of this massive quake. What the aftermath leaves is truly astonishing.
New to the MAX is Amy Escobar with a new work of theater, Drag Me Down to Drown. The monster at the bottom of the lake was a ghoul of childhood lore that never quite left our lovers alone. It lives inside them as they push and pull each other, too afraid and proud to leave their murky waters.
Linsyanne Owen returns to 12MM debuting her own work This Piece I am Making. A simultaneously logical yet illogical score that requires the dancer to use text in an improvisational setting. This piece tangles through the tangents and unease of the mind where words are best kept concealed.
Do giant robots exist? Taking their inspiration from Anime, classic role-playing video games, quiet prayer, and Spinoza, Melody Nelson storms the MAX with Giant Robots. Dance set to electronic music combined with spoken text, each dancer struggles to tell the story of what might be in front of them the whole time.
