MARCH 21st- 31st
An experiment in community care, shared embodiment, and decentralized learning. This event offers a series of virtual gathering spaces that include workshops, skill shares, conversations, and embodiment practices focused on strategies for sustaining ourselves, each other, and the movements for liberation.
A companion to Salvage Rituals (performance in development at On The Boards), Salvage Exchange is a continued investigation of sustainability with a focus on mutual aid and embodiment. This event is organized by the Salvage Rituals creative team: Jeffrey Azevedo, Sophie Franco, Alice Gosti, Alex Harding, Erin McCarthy, Alyza DelPan-Monley, Stefan Richmond, and Tim Smith-Stewart
"I believe somatics, in coursework and/or bodywork, is one of the most effective ways to get a group of complex, contradictory humans into alignment with a liberated collective future. Seeing, feeling ourselves, as we are, with agency to shape the future … that’s the miracle." -Adrienne Maree Brown
"Gratitude and reciprocity are the currency of a gift economy, and they have the remarkable property of multiplying with every exchange, their energy concentrating as they pass from hand to hand, a truly renewable resource." -Robin Wall Kimmerer
“We’re all we’ve got. We’re all we need.”
Financial transparency statement
The Salvage Exchange artist team has committed to donating 50% of its artist fee from On the Boards to Queer The Land, and 50% of the artists fee will be distributed amongst the creative team and event facilitators.

SALVAGE RITUALS TEAM
In 2017, Smith-Stewart and Azevedo premiered Awaiting Oblivion... at On the Boards and The Perpetual Insurrection of Claude Cahun at the Henry Art Gallery. They have also presented performances at On the Boards' NW New Works Festival, Risk/Reward (Portland), Velocity Dance Center, and Fresh Oysters Performance Research (Minneapolis), as well as installations at New Tomorrow, Erasure (curated by Lion’s Main Art Collective), and the Lofi Arts Festival. From 2010-2013 they co-created The Eternal Glow Project—a four part performance/installation which premiered work at The Seattle Center Next50, OtB's NW New Works Festival, and the Lofi Arts Festival.
Alice Gosti (she/her) is an Italian-American immigrant choreographer, hybrid performance artist, curator, DJ, and architect of experiences. She is based out of occupied Duwamish and Coast Salish land, now named Seattle. Raised in a bi-cultural family of installation artists, her performances live and breathe the dualities within a multicultural environment. Alice works simultaneously with film, installation, wearable art, sound, poetry, digital platforms, and audience interaction to create durational performances integral to their non-traditional sites, to create cultural moments for audiences from one to 15,000.
Gosti’s work has been recognized with numerous awards and residencies. Gosti’s work has been commissioned and presented nationally and Internationally in universities, theaters, museums and galleries. @gostiaa @malacarneco http://gostia.com
Alyza DelPan-Monley believes in the expressive power accessed in the body through movement. Living in the overlap between theater and dance, they are drawn to poetic abstraction and contextualized specificity. They strive to participate in processes where everyone can exist in their fullest selves by honoring every body’s unique form of expression.
Sophie Franco (they/them/theirs) Franco is a bilingual, Peruvian-American theatre artist and interrupter of the status quo working in the Seattle area. They have worked professionally as an actor, director, playwright, dancer, bilingual text coach and teaching artist, in addition to being Sunshine Chairman and a Resident Actor at Washington Ensemble Theatre.
Stefan (he/they) is a Colorado native, Seattle based actor/movement/performance artist & educator. After graduating from the University of Northern Colorado with a B.A. in Theatre Arts and Dance, he made his way to the PNW through the Intiman Emerging Artist Program in 2016. As a creative collaborator and storyteller, he believes in the power of storytelling, and its ability to heal. His work seeks to examine and explore the intersections of stories and emotions related to physical space, natural movement within the body, and language/text. Some Seattle credits include Romeo y Julieta (Sophie Franco/Seattle Shakespeare), Black Bois (Dani Tirrell + Congregation), Time to Tell (Shawn Johnson), and The House of Dinah (Andrew Russell/Dani Tirrell/Jerome Parker).
SALVAGE EXCHANGE COMMUNITY MEMBERS
About the Artists
This event is an attempt towards practicing abundance and deprogramming ingrained models of scarcity. How can we more widely share our life-affirming creative and embodiment practices? How can they work alongside sustained support for our communities' basic needs, especially for those who are most vulnerable and marginalized?
Al Robert Franco, M.D. (he/him/his) Dr. Franco is a member of the American College of Rheumatology and has practiced for over forty years. He's interested in the relationship between infections and rheumatic diseases, which he treats with a combination of antibiotics, natural antimicrobials and nutritional supplements. He has also published research in the area of mycoplasma infection and its association with rheumatoid arthritis, fibromyalgia, and other connective tissue diseases.
